It is technologically very complicated to make lithium-ion batteries for electric cars, but constant progress has enabled us to produce increasingly efficient batteries at the same compact size.

Batteries are the most crucial part of any electric car and are designed to last for the entire life of the vehicle.
After a battery has served its time in an electric car, it can be either recycled or repurposed, e.g. for home or industrial energy storage. This can extend the battery’s active life by up to 10 years.
High voltage traction batteries from electric cars can already be recycled very efficiently. Typically, up to 97% of materials (especially precious metals) can be recycled and then reused in electrical equipment.
