My trip across France in the Škoda Enyaq

18. července 2024

As we approach a very busy summer of sport, with the Tour de France and Tour de France Femme avec Zwift, Škoda will be celebrating their 21st consecutive year of sponsoring the event. Building on the success of having the first all-electric vehicle - the Škoda Enyaq - in the 2023 Tour de France, the new Škoda Elroq will be the first vehicle in the 2024 race convoy. Taking pride of place directly behind the peloton and transporting the race director throughout every stage, the Škoda Elroq will play a vital role in delivering the final World Tour Race prior to the Olympic Games in Paris.

One of the first longer journeys I did in my own all-electric car was to the west coast of France in the Škoda Enyaq in May 2022. I was headed to a race not far from Nantes and so after crossing the channel on Eurotunnel I navigated the route via what were, at that point, newly installed charging stations.

I can’t deny that I did have some slight apprehension at travelling such a long distance for the first time in an electric vehicle, but you quickly adapt to the charging process and see each stop as a very welcome and necessary break in the journey. The Enyaq proved very efficient on the battery life, especially when using the regenerative braking mode. Plus, the short time to charge have me the opportunity to have a much-needed coffee, croissant and leg stretch!

The race itself was a huge success in the build-up to my championship goals of that year and once complete it was time to plot the route back via the charging stations. As my first properly long trip in my Enyaq, it was a massive success. Proving to me just how easy it can be to convert to all-electric even when you are travelling those longer distances.
